The driving force behind Baroccata was the encounter with Baroque music. Baroccata is a made-up word, meaning “Baroque-esque” in Italian. The work unfolds in three movements set to the music of Vivaldi and Bach, with a central movement featuring music by Eric Whitaker. This middle section introduces a contemporary contrast that breaks the Baroque atmosphere, creating a vibrant dialogue between tradition and modernity. Danced en pointe, Baroccata blends classical technique with contemporary elements, evoking the playful dramas of Baroque courts.
